แทนซาเนีย หรือชื่อทางการ สหสาธารณรัฐแทนซาเนีย เป็นประเทศที่อยู่บนชายฝั่งตะวันออกของแอฟริกา มีอาณาเขตทางเหนือจดเคนยาและยูกันดา ทางตะวันตกจดรวันดา บุรุนดี และสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยคองโก และทางใต้จดแซมเบีย มาลาวี และโมซัมบิก ส่วนทางตะวันออกจดมหาสมุทรอินเดีย ประเทศตั้งชื่อมาจากแผ่นดินใหญ่แทนกันยีกาและเกาะแซนซิบาร์ที่อยู่นอกจากชายฝั่งตะวันออก แทนซาเนียเป็นสมาชิกของเครือจักรภพแห่งชาติ ตั้งแต่ประกาศเอกราชเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2504 เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2507 แทนกันยีกาได้รวมกับแซนซีบาร์ กลายเป็นสหสาธารณรัฐแทนแกนยิกาและแซนซิบาร์ และต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นสหสาธารณรัฐแทนซาเนีย เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2539 เมืองหลวงของแทนซาเนียย้ายจากดาร์เอสซาลามไปโดโดมา อย่างไรก็ดี สำนักงานของรัฐบาลหลายแห่งยังคงตั้งอยู่ในเมืองหลวงเดิม
